N95 8GB 15.0.015 Firmware Selectively Available

image

To all of you N95 8GB (aka N95-2) users, you'll be glad to know that there's been a new firmware release!

I didn't want to post it earlier as there it was not entirely confirmed, but now that it's legit so here's the scoop.

Strangely enough, this v15.0.015 for the N95-2 isn't available worldwide. Those of you with the EURO product codes should have no problem upgrading when you plug in to the Nokia Software Updater (NSU), though there have been reports of people having trouble doing this in the United Kingdom.

Updates include:

  • Web Run Time engine (Widgets)
  • FlashLite 3 video support (now YouTube  and other flash content can be streamed flawlessly)
  • Gallery, Search, and Contacts are kept in the background (even after pressing "Exit") causing better responsiveness and faster startup
  • Speed of accessing the internal 8GB of flash memory has been improved, and  running the 'Image store' on PC Suite only takes 30 seconds to scan, rather than several minutes on v11 firmware.
  • Bugs fixes under the hood have been done. In particular, the one that was stopping lots of third party themes from working.

That's all I could dig up for now, but if there's anymore changes/improvements I'll post it for sure. Based on the implementation of FlashLite 3 in the N95-2's firmware I predict we'll also be seeing another firmware update the the N95 Classic (aka N95-1)

**To help with reinstalling applications, you can try using InstFast. It's a batch installer meaning it can install multiple files at a go instead of you having to go through the installation dialogs.

Good Luck!
