N95 Able to Use Media Keys For n-gage Gaming!

I'm probably one of the first to discover this as i have not seen it being posted anywhere else! Just now I was enjoying the new n-gage games and pushed my N95's slider out for a little more comfort. Then my fingers got a little itchy and i decided to press the buttons, but to my surprise they actually responded! Yes, you heard me right! The "stop" media button functions as the "A" gaming button on the N95. Try it!

Many N95 users were doubtful whether Nokia will forget about us when n-gage would be released, but I am very pleased that Nokia has implemented this funtion into the N95.
Perhaps Nokia and other game devellopers could come up with diferent versions of the n-gage games that will fully utilise the N95's accelerometer and allow the usage of all 4 media buttons for gaming, much like a PSP. One can only wait...... and hope.....

The Dos & Donts Of Chinese New Year

As we all know chinese are superstitious people, including myself of course. So lets have a look at some of the Dos and Donts of Chinese New Year.

DO

* Wear Red clothing....

Red clothing is preferred during this festive occasion. Red is considered a bright, happy color, sure to bring the wearer a sunny and bright future. It is also said keep away unholy spirits.

* Pay all debts.....

Nothing should be lent during the new year season, as anyone who does is said to be lending all year long. Back when tinder and flint were used, no one would lend them on this day or give a light to others, in fear of a having a troubled year ahead.

Donts

*Use foul language and unlucky words.....

Negative terms and the word "four" (Shi), which sounds like the word for death in several Chinese dialects, are not to be uttered. Death and dying are never mentioned and ghost stories are totally taboo. References to the past year are also avoided as everything should be turned toward the New Year and a new beginning.

*Sweep the floor for the first few days of the new year......

In Chinese households, the floor is swept clean long before the Chinese New Year. Sweeping the floor on new year's day itself is a no-no as it represents "sweeping away" the good fortune.

Yep, i'm now armed and ready for the new year, off i go.........

The Significance of Posture..

Do you want to look 10 pounds lighter without shedding a drop of sweat or condemning yourself to drinking carrot juice all day? Then hold your head up high and keep your shoulders back, because nothing accentuates an unwanted paunch like saggy posture.

You can probably hear your mother’s admonitions right now, “Stand up straight and don’t slouch!” These tidbits of motherly guidance are likely filed away alongside other gems like, “Touching yourself will make you go blind.”

The truth is that standing up straight is more than just the backbone (pun intended) of your childhood naggings. When practiced correctly, good posture reduces the risk of arthritis, prevents muscular pain and keeps your joints in their correct alignment, while making you look and feel more confident.

When you let your posture sag, you’re giving in to gravity while, at the same time, putting unnecessary strain on your body. That discomfort you feel after sitting at the office all day? That could escalate into chronic back pain. In fact, you could even develop persistent headaches and breathing problems.

If you have normal joint motion, average flexibility and muscles that can hold you up, you have all the right things needed to maintain excellent posture. Read on to discover easy ways to incorporate important posture-saving techniques into your daily life.

Standing

When you’re standing, there should be an imaginary straight line that connects your ears to your shoulders, all the way down to your ankles.

Try standing up and taking note of your posture using a mirror. Are your shoulders slouched? Does your head hang down? To rectify poor posture, start by raising your chin, then pull your shoulders back so that they line up with your earlobes. Gently tuck in your belly to keep it from exerting force on your spine, and straighten your knees, being careful not to lock them.

When you’re standing, keep your weight off your heels. The balls of your feet are made to cope with keeping you upright, so use them. If you need to stand for an extended length of time, periodically shift your weight from one foot to the other.

Also, avoid reaching too far for objects (read: beer). And when lifting, try not to bend at the waist, use your knees and hips instead. And for goodness’ sake, lift with your legs not your back.

Sitting
Office jobs are notorious posture-killers. If you’re sitting at a desk all day it’s easy to slouch into a subpar position, which can cause pain that you may not notice right away.

While sitting, your back should be positioned in the familiar S-shaped spinal curve. If you have one of those fancy, ergonomic chairs, your lower back should rest comfortably against the back of the chair. Don’t have that luxury? It’s easy to fake the extravagance when it comes to lumbar support: Just roll up a small towel and place it between your lower back and the chair.nstead of leaning over your desk, sit back and get your butt muscles right up against the back of the chair. If you need to be closer to your desk, move the chair forward.

Your feet should be flat on the floor with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. If you’re working at a computer, your arms should rest comfortably at a near 90-degree angle as well. Right angles turning out all wrong? Play with the height of your chair until the numbers add up.

Sleeping
Does your back hurt when you wake up each morning? Well, the your mattress might be too soft. As a general rule, firm surfaces usually provide better back support. If you don’t want to invest the funds in a brand new mattress, consider buying a foam pad. Also, try to avoid sleeping on your stomach. Sleeping on either your side or your back is a much better idea if you want to enhance your posture while in bed.

Next, check your pillow. Does it help you maintain the imaginary straight line from ear to shoulder you learned from standing properly? If not, you may need to go pillow shopping. You could also try the rolled up towel trick, but this time place it under your neck. A pillow under the knees isn’t a bad idea if you’re sleeping on your back or between your legs if you’re sleeping on your side.

Back it up

Though these techniques are solid posture-builders, all the posture-enhancing tricks in the word won’t help if your muscles are overly tense. Other than the obvious hint of trying to relax, make a point of doing simple stretches each day to help loosen your muscles. Your back is designed to support you, but only if you hold up your end of the bargain.

All I can say is WOW! After all those long, long weeks of waiting... Nokia relieves us from the pain staking wait and gives us 3 more N-Gage 2.0 trial games. These new games have been announced on the N-gage web site for some time now, so nothing really surprising there. Please don't ask me why only 3 games are released, but i say.. better than nothing!

Samir Makes A Comeback, LoudUp & ShakeMe Emerges

image

Oh yea, things are sure heating up in the accelerometer business! Earlier this year we saw Tong Ren beating Samir to his idea of ShutUp, and Damian who has released a number of fun (but quite pointless) accelerometer applications such as pyPiwo, pyRybka, pyPoziomica as well as pyMoneta. Well, Samir was the one who started developing accelerometer applications from the very beginning so it is only natural that he would like to keep that lead.

Today two more names pop up on Samir's website, shrouded in mystery. No confirmed details on either of the applications yet, but ShakeMe might introduce the functionality of changing sound tracks by shaking the phone, much like what the newSony Ericsson W910 phones does; while LoudUp is said to be an autospeaker that will allow direct answering of phone calls through the loudspeaker. Truely useful when driving or for those who are hearing-impaired.

So here's some food for thought, is Samir really working on TWO new applications when he hasn't even perfected/completed either one of his previous prejects? ... or is this just more of drawing the crowd and attention to himself and to "reserve" some of cool names for his future applications?

...only time will tell.... Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions on this one.

ShakerRacer Released!

image

When you're playing a racing game or using an RC car, you will very often move your whole body when driving through tight turns or accelerate with full speed — but the control itself is very often still done through abstract buttons on a game controller or keyboard.

ShakerRacer does not need this additional layer and allows you to control an RC car directly through your movements — by using the acceleration sensor of your mobile phone. It works in a very intuitive way: just tilt your phone in the direction you want to drive. That's it!

The car that we used is based on a standard €90 RC car bought from a toy shop. We modded it to accept Bluetooth instead of the proprietary wireless module that it was shipped with. A small microcontroller and a Bluetooth module replace the original wireless components. On the side of the mobile phone, a Python script translates the input of the acceleration sensor to commands that the microcontroller can understand in order to manage the steering servo as well as the main motor.

It turned out that this is a very intuitive and natural way to control the car. You do not need any practice as the concept can be understood instantly. So there's nothing that can block your way to fun!imageimage
