Can't Wait For ShutUp? FlipSilent Is Here!

Samir had us all on the edge of our chouch when he gave us a preview of his upcoming application, ShutUp! Unfortunately the French developer is still very preoccupied with RotateMe and NokMote. So someone else has step up to the dance floor, someone called Tong Ren. Tong Ren has developed an application with the similar function of ShutUp, called FlipSilent.

FlipSilent is a small software which makes you use your phone in a more natural way:
When you are in a meeting or dating, and a call is coming in, you can flipover your phone to make it go into the silent profile and hang up the phone call — without touching anything on the phone, just flip it over, your phone will go into silence.
The best thing about FlipSilent is that it also works with alarms instead of just phone calls as on ShutUp (though I cant confirm this as ShutUp is not out yet). Definately a plus as it is much easier to just flip your phone in the morning and let it go into snooze instead of trying to press the right button.

After trying out the application for myself i have to admit it's pretty well done out, but it would be handy if there was a hot key to deactivate it in future releases. The reason for this is because FlipSilent switches profiles even when your phone is locked, meaning there's going to be a lot of yoyo-ing between profiles when the phone is in your pocket.

You can check out the developer's website for this great piece of application here.
Oh BTW this only works with Symbian 3rd edition phones having the accelerometer, which translates to: It's only going to work on an N95. Have fun!

GloggerVS2 - Camera Shake Detection For N95

image

This Camera application can detect camera shaking and it will automatically inform user if he/she should capture the image. It uses N95's internal build-in accelerometer to detect the shake.

What`s New?
- My Album: Browse Images and Post Comments
- My Inbox: Receive instant Messages From Glogger
- My Live Events: Browse Live Events
- My Friends: Add your Contact List
- My Recorder: Added Video Recording Feature(JP-7 phones only) What`s Fixed?
- My album now has overlay menu with next page and previous page
- My Inbox now locks the "TO" field on reply and locks the send button to prevent sending messages multiple times.

You can also upload photos taken straight away to online services such as Blogger using this application though i think it still needs some improvement. Personally I do not see any great improvement in picture quality taken using this app instead of the default camera application so you might want to wait for the final release.

After I test it and confirm it is good i will post the final version here.

N95 8GB 15.0.015 Firmware Selectively Available

image

To all of you N95 8GB (aka N95-2) users, you'll be glad to know that there's been a new firmware release!

I didn't want to post it earlier as there it was not entirely confirmed, but now that it's legit so here's the scoop.

Strangely enough, this v15.0.015 for the N95-2 isn't available worldwide. Those of you with the EURO product codes should have no problem upgrading when you plug in to the Nokia Software Updater (NSU), though there have been reports of people having trouble doing this in the United Kingdom.

Updates include:

  • Web Run Time engine (Widgets)
  • FlashLite 3 video support (now YouTube  and other flash content can be streamed flawlessly)
  • Gallery, Search, and Contacts are kept in the background (even after pressing "Exit") causing better responsiveness and faster startup
  • Speed of accessing the internal 8GB of flash memory has been improved, and  running the 'Image store' on PC Suite only takes 30 seconds to scan, rather than several minutes on v11 firmware.
  • Bugs fixes under the hood have been done. In particular, the one that was stopping lots of third party themes from working.

That's all I could dig up for now, but if there's anymore changes/improvements I'll post it for sure. Based on the implementation of FlashLite 3 in the N95-2's firmware I predict we'll also be seeing another firmware update the the N95 Classic (aka N95-1)

**To help with reinstalling applications, you can try using InstFast. It's a batch installer meaning it can install multiple files at a go instead of you having to go through the installation dialogs.

Good Luck!

Free App Friday Is No More!

As the saying goes.. all good things must come to an end. Many people are familiar with Handango giving away cool free applications every Friday on their website, but that has now come to an end. In 2008, Handango decided to just give discounts instead of tossing away their applications like free candy. I have to say i feel disappointed as well as greatful at the same time, as I only managed to exploit this the last week of 2007, and grab out a genuine version of Handy Calendar. That was my first free genuine application from Handango, and unfortunately it also became me last, but Hey! they need to do business to right?
...now we can only hope some company might be kind enough to give away free applications again!

N82 - Now in Black and White, Literally!

Not so long ago Nokia released it's Sony K850i contender, the N82. The N82 was meant to replace the successful candy bar N73 which was getting a little out of date in terms of mobile technology. Packed with applications, there's hardly any reason not to get an N82, unless you already have an N95, that is. If you're one of those people that are especially about their phone colour and didn't like the original N82's colour, well now you get 2 more colours to choose from!

For the white one on the right, the front of the phone is exactly similar to the original one, so the only difference is that it looks more elegant from the back.
